VISIT THE SOMMIÈRES REGION

An unspoilt medieval town approved as a “Petits Cités de Caractère” (Little Towns of Character) between the Camargue and Cévennes! Sommières is one amazing place! The bridge running through town was built in 1AD for the Roman road from Nîmes. It is now one of few inhabited bridges in Europe.

The small town of Sommières is the first in the Gard to receive the label Petite Cités de Caractère (small cities of character)! Rich in its gentle way of life, its charming little streets, this medieval town will seduce young and old alike!

Château de Sommières and Bermond Tower provide panoramic views of the Vidourle Valley in all its glory. History lovers will adore the picture-perfect Place du Marché with its arcades in different shapes and sizes.

Food lovers can feast on local produce at the fabulous Sommières market every Saturday morning. The traditional market in Sommières is a must! Countless market traders set up their colourful stalls all year round! Here you’ll find local produce, regional specialities and clothing.

Our favourite thing to do: fill your basket with fresh produce and settle onto a terrace to enjoy a glass of wine and all the mouth-watering morsels you’ve picked up! Experience the market like a local!

You can meet local artisans and producers from the Gard at the night market on Wednesdays in July and August! It’s a great way to pick up the best local produce and gifts to take home from your holiday in Occitanie!

Because Sommières is a lively little town, on Monday evenings in July and August, the market square is transformed to host friendly winegrowers’ evenings, allowing you to meet the winegrowers present and discover their wines accompanied by “summer” plates sold on the spot!

The Estivales de Sommières are perfect for a simple aperitif or a whole evening with the family where everything is gathered to spend a pleasant moment with a musical atmosphere of the most atypical!

Only 2km from the campsite, Sommières offers a multitude of activities, entertainment and discoveries for a 100% Sommières stay!

We recommend going canoeing, kayaking or paddleboarding to explore everything the valley has to offer. You can hire canoes and kayaks in Sommières and Roque de St Séries.

There are several family-friendly routes available (min. age 5). It’s best to park at the start point. Shuttle buses will take you to Sommières where you can get in the water and canoe or kayak down the river.
